In 1989, the cities of College Park, East Point, and Hapeville, decided
to make a coordinated effort to fight the increasing illegal drug
activites. A grant was obtained by College Park from the Department of
Justice. The Edward Byrne Memorial Grant provided the necessary
means to form this collaboration between agencies.
Since that time the cities of Union City, Fairburn, and Palmetto have
also joined.

Today, Tri-Cities Narcotics is still continually seizing more and
more illegal drugs off the
streets. On several quarterly reports, the task force has seized drug
work over $1 million in street value.

In 1997, the task force was invited to the office of Governor Zell Miller.
There they had an open discussion with the governor about the current
trends in drug enforcement.
