The task force utilizes a drug detection dog in its everyday operation.
In 1998 a highway interdiction unit was started with Simba, a golden
retriever, as it's first K-9.
The dogs are certified by the NNDDA (National Narcotics Detector Dog
Association) and handled
by one of the Agents assigned to the unit.

The dogs are certified in the detection of the odors of marijuana, cocaine,
methamphetamine, and heroin. The dog and handler have weekly training
sessions to maintain their skills.

In addition to highway drug enforcement, the K-9 unit also assists
law enforcement agencies in the area including US Customs, US Drug
Enforcement Administration (DEA), US Postal Inspectors, Federal
Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and other state and local agencies.
